There was a wonderful buzz of excitement and anticipation as the audience eagerly awaited the curtain rise. They were not to be disappointed, as the first glimpse of scenery, costumes and characters were excellent. The opening scene cleverly introduced the 'merry band' to us. When the 'poor folk' arrived, they all looked suitably down-trodden with tatty costumes to match. The Hero song was excellent. When we met Robin (Alison Bagnall) 'he' was bright and cheerful and soon had everyone onside, including the very many chidlren in the audience. The rougish Sheriff (Phil Domaille) and Prince John (Adrian Dennis) complemented each other superbly as they feebly plotted against Robin and Maid Marian (Rachel McCarthy). Rick and Ron (Daniel Holmes and James Linehan) were two of the Prince's helpers: this young duo cheekily injected humour throughout. The sound and effects worked well, with lovely little touches. The baked-bean induced flatulence of Friar Tuck was a winner for any age group!! The set design was a real highlight and the scene changes smoothly done, well done to all. The cast of 32 used the limited stage area well. So often a small stage is cluttered to get everyone on, but not here. Congratulations to all. thank you for your kind, warm welcome. What a lovely time.
